CitySpire
New York, New York
Architect: Murphy/Jahn Architects
Owner: Eichner Properties
Recipient of the Concrete Industry Board's Prestigious Annual Award

With a 10-to-1 ratio, CitySpire is the world's tallest most slender structure to its height. Nine major structural sub-systems are a part of this 810 ft. tall tower, which was completed in 1987. At the time of its completion, it was the second tallest concrete tower ever built. Its main structural system is a shearwall/open tube, which traverses the building's central (80 ft. wide) octagon in each direction, without obstructing its wide-open Manhattan views. CitySpire is at present the tallest mixed use concrete building in New York City.

The Concrete Alliance originated from the idea that the public will have a voice in demanding reinforced cast-in-place concrete as the material of a safer choice.

The goal of the Concrete Alliance is to educate politicians, developers, architects, engineers, insurers, and the general public about the safety benefits that a cast-in-place reinforced concrete building offers.
