House footing drain- How much slope is needed?

All details show the pipe at or near the bottom of the footing so how does the water get carried away?
All the details show the pipe at or near the bottom of the footing. Why is it always shown at that point? Is that the starting point or the ending point? Can I start 2′ higher than the bottom of the beam or do I start at the bottom of the beam and go down? P.S. 1/8" per 12" is adequate for the slope.

a quarter inch per foot

  1. .One quarter inch pitch per linear foot of pipe. 40 feet of pipe should be 10 inches lower on the desired drainage end
